So I want to take a second and tackle a question that somebody recently posted to the Urbanbella Facebook page, the question was, Why are Natural hair Products so Expensive? I am more than happy to dive into this conversation a little. Let's get started!
The Word Expensive is Relative
I think we have to realize that " relative" words like expensive aren't necessarily absolute; what seems like an investment for me might not seem as big to someone else. It just depends on where you like investing in yourself and how much you like to invest. Where one woman buys expensive clothing another may spend thousands of dollars a year on beauty products and beauty services. Also we're all at different levels of income in life. And so what is expensive to one person is may not even put a dent in someone else's wallet.
All Products are Not the Same
So why are natural hair products so expensive? The answer lies in their production process as well as what they contain! Synthetic ingredients have been swapped out with botanical alternatives. We have come a long way with black beauty products. Since we have learned that transforming the condition of your hair really comes from improving what actually is in your hair care products, beauty brands like Urbanbella have started formulating luxury hair care specifically for afro texture hair.
It's Good to Have A Range of Prices and Brands
Now, with that being said, I want to break down just a little bit about the differences in hair care products. All haircare products are not the same. All natural hair products are not the same. I think it's wonderful that the industry offers a variety of product at different prices. You've got some products at the $3.99 price point and you've got some products that the $30 and $40 level and that's good. And there is a distinct difference between those products. Trust me, I have done the homework personally speaking. You get different results at different price points.
I'll give you a great example of this outside of haircare, because I think sometimes as members of the natural hair community, we take the price of products as a personal attack. There are different tiers of pricing and product quality everywhere. Houses, coffee, clothing, cars --everywhere.
If you just take lotion -- good old Queen Helene with Cocoa Butter lotion --for $3.99 they give you a gallon of that stuff. You can put it all on. You are still ashy. You skin is still dry, but you paid $3.99 and you still had to add some other products to get soft moisturized skin.
And then you have Cerve offering lotions at different price points, but nothing below $17. Their most expensive body moisturizer is a skin repairing lotion and retails for $32 for 6 oz.
Price and product quality often go hand in hand, which is why you should upgrade your haircare products to the luxury level. We’ve seen that not all beauty products are created equal. Some companies use higher quality ingredients than others, and these luxury products come with a higher price tag. By upgrading to luxury haircare products, you can ensure that you’re getting the best possible quality for your money.
Natural hair products can be expensive for a variety of reasons. However, there are also affordable options available for those who are on a budget. Ultimately, it is up to you to decide what type of product you want to purchase. Natural hair care is an important part of many people's lives, and there is a wide range of products available to suit every need and budget.
