When you first use the Urbanbella collection we recommend only using Urbanbella products. This will allow you to see the products perform their best. Mixing in other hair care products will change the results and most likely not give you the Urbanbella look. Our system is designed to maximize your moisture level, define your curls and help you achieve styles that last for several days or even weeks.

The Hydration System
Part 1: The Cleansing Process
The Products
This is a two-step system. For Step 1: We start with the Urbanbella No.78 Honey and Aloe Lather Cleanser. We recommend using this cleanser every other week for a deep clean that does not strip your hair. For Step 2: We follow with a Moisturizing Cleanser. This is the Urbanbella No.7 Non-Lather Cleanser (Minty). This is where your hydrating and moisturizing routine begins. The No.7 Non-Lather Cleanser immediately begins to restore hydration and moisture to your hair. It also begins the conditioning and detangling process. Getting your scalp clean is a critical part of growing healthy hydrated hair. To remove build-up in your follicles we have added a high amount of Menthol and Peppermint Essential Oil to the No.7 Cleanser. It is a very gentle exfoliation for your scalp and stimulates blood flow.
What You Want to Do
Cleanse first with the Honey & Aloe Lather and Cleanse and then follow and cleanse with the Urbanbella No.7 Non-Lather Cleanser. Every other week you can use only the Urbanbella No.7 Non-Lather Cleanser. Be sure to cleanse your hair and scalp twice on your wash day. If your hair is especially dry you can take a few weeks and use only the No.7 Non-Lather Cleanser to raise your moisture and hydration level of your hair.
Note: A regular routine should include cleansing your hair every week and using the Honey and Aloe Lather Cleanser every other week. You can use the Honey & Aloe Lather every week if you choose. We only recommend doing this if you steam your hair every week and only use the Urbanbella Natural Hair Product System. No matter what, use the Urbanbella No.7 Non-Lather Cleanser on every wash day.
Part 2: The Conditioning Process
The Products
Having the Urbanbella Salon has taught me a lot about what really makes hair feel soft and hydrated. In the beginning we had several conditioners and deep treatments from many brands on our back bar. This allowed me to see how different products worked on different types of natural hair. Conditioners that contained the most oil worked the best for transforming dry hair. We also noticed that silicone was NOT necessary for detangling natural hair. Period. For you, this part of the system is about conditioning, detangling and hydrating your natural hair.
Urbanbella offers 3 products to help you achieve success in this area. Let's dive into the Urbanbella products you will need to achieve the maximum benefits the system. Our primary conditioner that we recommend for everyone is the Urbanbella No.4 Hydrating Conditioner. You use this for every wash day and the benefits just keep getting better with time. This conditioner contains coconut oil which penetrates the hair shaft best and delivers the moisture you need to get your styles to last. It is important to understand the this particular part of the system is where you set your hair up for long lasting style, best curl definition and moisture and hydration. Using a high-quality conditioner will save you a lot of time and money on the next parts of the system. With quality products you address your hair less often. A deep conditioning treatment that goes a little further is good to have in your arsenal. But you don’t need every week. I recommend once every 2 months that you give your hair a moisture and hydration boost using the Urbanbella No.14 Organic Coconut Cream Repair Mask. This product contains 30% Coconut Oil and very little water. We have added a variety of humectants to increase the hydration of your hair as we have added protein to help repair and build strength in your hair shaft. This particular product also gives a kick of shine to your hair. If you are adverse to coconut oil or other nut-based oil we have the Urbanbella Neat Nourishing Conditioner. This blend has panthenol, amino acids, two conditioning elements and olive oil to deliver the moisture and hydration that natural hair needs. The amino acids penetrate below the cuticle layer to deliver additional hydration to your hair and amino acids help your hair to hold on to moisture. Most customers notice their hair is easier to manage, shinier and softer after using our products that contain Amino Acids (The Winter Curls Collection is an example of this).
What You Want to Do
When you have any Urbanbella Conditioner on your hair you want to detangle your hair using the Urbanbella Detangling Comb. Steam condition or deep condition your hair with a heated cap. The steam or heat increases the benefits of the ingredients by helping it penetrate the hair shaft even more. This is especially true of coconut oil and the Amino Acids. Deep condition for at least 20 minutes. If your hair is extremely dry or you are new the Urbanbella System, then steam for 30 minutes.

The Styling Products
The Products
This step is for defining your curls and applying our styling gels that help your style last for a week or more. We offer a variety of gels for this step from hydrating gels to firm hold gels. We mix and match these based on your personal hair needs as well as the season. The easiest way to look at the Urbanbella Gels and determine which one you need is to first look at your hydration needs and then look at how much hold you want. There are 5 Clear Gels and 1 Creamy Styler in our collection. From time to time, I will launch a new gel that is available for a limited time. These are seasonal and formulated to work with the change in our climate. You can also choose gels for your climate.
If you are new to Urbanbella I would start with the most hydrating gel as your base or main gel and I would also get a firm hold gel to ensure you can get the style to last a while. I explain in our video tutorials how to adjust using your Urbanbella Gels. Changes in the weather result in changes in your hair and skin. Here are the 6 Urbanbella Styling Products Listed from Softest for Firmest. Please note if you are new to Urbanbella and want to try our No.10 Stretch Twist Curl Cream we recommend Type 4B and 4C Naturals first twist with this and as you build moisture then try a Wash-N-Go with this product. All of our gels are designed to Wash-N-Go and are versatile and work great for twist sets.
- Urbanbella No.10 Stretch+ Twist+Curl Cream (Styling Cream - Not a Gel)
- Urbanbella Neat Extra Soft Gel - Extra Soft Hold and Extremely Hydrating
- Urbanbella No.34 Tamu Curls - Soft Hold
- Urbanbella No.49 Cre'Gel - Medium Hold and Moisturizing
- Urbanbella No.54 Shine + Define Gel - Firm Hold
- Urbanbella Extra Firm Gel - Extra Firm Hold
What You Want to Do
The Urbanbella Classic styling technique is the Wash-N-Go. I recommend selecting a soft gel if you are new to the Urbanbella Collection, either the Extra Soft Gel or Tamu Curls. Use this as your main styler. I recommend this approach because we find that most people are experiencing very dry hair and these two gels will help provide hydration to your finished style. We would also recommend adding one of the firmer gels for glazing on top so the style will last longer. Our video tutorials show the Wash-N-Go Technique the best so I would recommend viewing those to understand the process or review this blog post I wrote detailing the Urbanbella Styling Technique.
The Moisturizing System
The Moisturizing Process
The Products
To provide clarity you are hydrating and moisturizing your hair at every part of the Urbanbella System. This particular step is solely focused on Hydrating and Moisturizing your curls and it comes after you a finished styling and through the week as needed. We arrive here after your hair has been cleansed, deep conditioned, styled and is fully dry. This Part of the Urbanbella System is 2 Steps. Step 1 Product is the Urbanbella No.9 Hair Shine Butter and Step 2: No.23 Hydrating Moisturizing Cream. The Shine Butter helps the transform the moisture level of your hair over time as well as seal in the benefits of your No.23 Moisturizing Cream which hydrates and moisturizes your hair. You will find the benefits of these products last all week. A true test of the health of your hair is how many times a week you need to apply these products. Most Urbanbella Tribe members find they only need to apply this product once a week --- on wash day. Adding hydration and moisture on wash day helps lock in moisture from your cleansing and conditioning steps. This is also where we add additional shine to your hair. It's important to understand that the Urbanbella No.23 Hydrating Moisturizing Cream is making your curls soft and hydrated. This is especially important to the long-term health and beauty of your natural hair.
What You Want to Do
Rub a dime size amount of No.9 Hair Shine Butter between your palms to melt it. Then take a quarter size amount the No.23 Hydrating Moisturizing Cream and add that to your hands. Now rub both together. Scrunch onto your hair to soften and moisturize it.
